The couple were entertained by friends who went by in cars, on bikes, and one on an electric unicycle, so they could safely distance during the pandemic. Combine this visible work 4 in the sum- mer heat 4 with all the invisible large ticket items we rarely see happening behind the scenes (waste- water and solid waste for example) and I9m just so dang grateful for hardwork- ing employees of Sisters Public Works Department for everything they do to keep our city safe and beautiful.= School may not look the same this fall, but one thing is certain: The needs of students and families will be greater than ever. Mid Oregon Credit Union has announced a change to its annual Supplies 4 Schools branch supply drive to benefit local schools. This year, Mid Oregon continues the tradition of collecting donated school supplies in all seven branch locations, but will add to its support by matching the first $1,000 in cash donations received from members and the community. <We understand that members are spending less time shopping right now, but they still want to help where they can,= said Kyle Frick, VP of marketing for Mid Oregon Credit Union. <And we know that many local families are going to need a boost to help them get their kids ready for the school year. We9re hoping our mem- bers and the community will rise to the challenge and max out our matching donation so we can help as many families as possible.= Wi t h m a n y s c h o o l s employing remote learn- ing, and minimizing con- tact between students in the classroom, important tools like scientific calculators may be in short supply. (ESI) and the Sisters Airport hosted a Red Cross blood drive last Thursday. The idea started when ESI9s Human Resources Manager, Deb Vanderhoef, read an article sponsored by the American Red Cross advertising their need for blood and plasma dona- tions. She learned that blood donations would be tested for COVID-19 antibodies, indicating that the donor had already had the disease and developed antibody resis- tance. Thinking some ESI employees might find this information useful and be willing to donate, she sent out a message. She was thrilled at the positive response. Signups for donation times filled up quickly, and additional time slots were opened up for pub- lic donors. <The pandemic has made See BLOOD DRIVE on page 10 5 multiple users in a classroom setting. <Despite the uncertainty parents are facing about the upcoming school year, they can be assured that their chil- dren will have the school supplies they require to be successful at home or in the classroom, said Julie Lyche, executive director of Family Access Network (FAN). <Since the needs of our stu- dents may be different this year, financial donations will allow FAN to purchase sup- plies as soon as those needs arise.= The Supplies 4 Schools fundraiser and supply drive is underway during the month of August at all seven loca- tions within Mid Oregon Credit Union9s service area. All donations of cash and supplies stay in the commu- nity where they are collected. Mid Oregon partners with FAN and other local agencies to distribute the supplies to students in Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson Counties who may lack the basic necessities to be successful at school.
